Coleman is a native of Blackpool Lancashire. Coleman attended Arnold School Blackpool as head girl. She scored every A grade in her A-level exams. The 21st of March, 2012 Doctor Who producer Steven Moffat confirmed at a press conference that Coleman will be the companion of the Doctor alongside Matt Smith after Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill have left the show.
